ABOUT TAKE IT HERE
A useful starting point.
Take It Here is an independent recycling and disposal directory covering Port Alberni, Ucluelet, Tofino, Nanaimo and Victoria. We are not a municipality, facility operator or booking service.
How we research listings
Each result links to its sources and shows when those sources were reviewed. We prioritize municipal, operator and recycling-program information. Third-party listings, conflicting information and details still needing confirmation are labelled. Online source review does not mean we have called the facility.
Acceptance, prices and opening hours can change. Confirm your exact material and load with the operator before travelling. No payment or booking is taken through this guide.
Help correct the guide
Use “Suggest a correction” on a result to identify that listing automatically, or send a general correction. Include what changed and a source link if available. Reports are reviewed before any listing changes; they are not published as comments. For urgent disposal or safety questions, contact the facility directly.
Privacy and traffic information
The public takeithere.ca site is hosted with Web Hosting Canada, with Vancouver selected as its server location. Hosting access logs and AWStats can record requests, IP addresses, times, browsers and referring pages. Counts may include automated requests and our own testing.
The correction form stores reports privately on that hosting account. It does not ask for your name or email. A session cookie helps protect the form, and a keyed hash of the network address limits repeated submissions. Do not include personal, confidential or sensitive information. Reports are retained for review until the site owner deletes them; they are not sent to a public comment feed.
Clicks on disposal options
On the public WHC site, we count clicks on facility phone numbers, directions and verified business website links. Daily totals include the facility and, where shown, the selected community and material. These are clicks, not confirmed calls, visits, customers or unique people. Third-party source listings are not counted as business websites.
Click totals are stored privately on our WHC hosting, without cookies, visitor identifiers, full page URLs or search text. A separate daily-changing keyed network hash limits spam; it is not included in the totals. Expired rate-limit entries and totals older than 400 days are removed when another qualifying action arrives. Browser Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals disable this click counter. Blocking measurement does not affect the directory. Hosting access logs are separate. The private ChatGPT review copy does not count clicks.
Searches that need better answers
On the public WHC site, short searches with no matching material or no researched drop-off are counted with the selected community. We wait until typing pauses and send a phrase at most once per page visit. This helps us find missing materials and search synonyms; it does not count unique people. Phrases containing numbers, email-style text or web addresses are excluded, but please never enter personal information.
The private search list stores the phrase, community, reason, count and first/last occurrence. It contains no raw IP address or browser identifier. A separate keyed network hash limits spam; expired rate-limit entries and search entries inactive for 90 days are removed when a later qualifying search is processed. The site owner can also delete these files. No searches are logged from the private ChatGPT review copy.
We have not added advertising trackers, Google Analytics or automatic device-location detection. Choosing a community changes the results displayed. The separate private ChatGPT review copy links to the WHC-hosted correction form.
